    Description

Title: – 1902 DB National Bank of the Republic of Chicago, IL EX RARE.
    In
    Washington D.C. on 19 May 1891 t
he National Bank of the Republic, of Chicago, filed an application for authority to organize a national banking association. Surprisingly, on 30 July 1891 the comptroller of currency authorized it to commence business with a capital of ,000,000. The bank was given charter number 4605 and its first
    bank officers were:
President, John A. Lynch; Cashier, William Taylor Fenton; and Asst. Cashier, John Hilliard Cameron.
They commenced business on 3 August 1891 with deposits of close to million and by July 1892 had nearly .5 million. Six years later in May 1898 deposits had grown to .85 million and by May 1901 exploded to million.
In June 1901 W. T. Fenton remained as VP, but gave up the position of Cashier. At that time John Hilliard Cameron was elected Cashier and Richard Morris McKinney became Assistant Cashier. In January 1904 Mr. Cameron resigned and joined Hamilton National Bank as Vice President, and Mr. McKinney was promoted to Cashier.
By June 1905 the bank had .5 million in assets and added three new Assistant Cashiers: Richard Leicester Crampton, Oscar Hurlburt Swan and Thomas Jansen.
The bank continued to expand and grow and the next significant changes were in bank officers, which happened in January 1918 when John A. Lynch continued as President, William T. Fenton was made first vice president and manager; R. M. McKinney was made second vice president, O. H. Swan was made cashier, and five other men were named Assistant Cashiers.
The bank eventually merged out of existence. In
July 1931 the Central Trust Company of Illinois and the National Bank of Republic of Chicago and its affiliate Chicago Trust Company, consolidated to Central Republic Bank and Trust Company, which was held by Central Republic Company. The founder of the National Bank of Republic, John A. Lynch retired after the merger.
This note is a third charter second issue Date Back of 1902, with an issued date of July 12, 1911, at which time James Carroll Napier was Register of the Treasury and Lee McClung was Treasurer of the United States. The note has serial number
51533 and treasury number E944779B. It was signed by Oscar Hurlburt Swan, Cashier and John A. Lynch, President.
This is a nice circulated bank note with a tight margin on the top. It is modestly  soiled and noticeable vertical fold lines. It has no pinholes and decent ink signatures of
    O. H Swan
    and
    John A. Lynch
. In a recent census there were only 2 of these notes known.
